Disclaimer about the answers
FencingRef is an AI assistant. Its answers are generated by a language model from an indexed copy of the FIE Technical Rules (August 2026 edition). Like any AI system, it can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date — even when an answer sounds confident and cites article numbers.
Nothing produced by this tool is an official ruling or official interpretation of the rules. Under t.82 of the FIE Technical Rules, the referee alone decides on the piste — this tool does not replace a qualified referee, and its answers carry no authority in a bout, competition, or protest.
Always verify anything that matters against the official FIE Technical Rules published by the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime. FencingRef is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the FIE in any way.

1. Acceptance of these terms
By signing in to or using FencingRef, you accept these terms and the disclaimer above. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
2. What the service is
FencingRef is an informational and educational tool for exploring the FIE Technical Rules. It is intended as a study and reference aid for fencers, coaches, and referees — not as a source of official rulings, legal advice, or competition decisions.
3. No warranty
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including, without limitation, warranties of accuracy, completeness, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability. Answers may contain errors, and the underlying rules text may be superseded by newer FIE editions at any time.
4. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operators of FencingRef accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the service or its answers — including decisions made in training, refereeing, or competition. You use the answers at your own risk and are responsible for verifying them against the official rules.
5. Your account and data
FencingRef does not store any user information. There is no user database and no analytics. Your Google account is used only to sign you in — your name, email, and profile picture are never written to any server-side store, and signing in creates no record beyond the session cookie in your own browser.
Your questions, the answers, and your conversation history are not recorded. Chat history lives only in your browser for the current session; closing the tab discards it. A question is processed only for as long as it takes to generate the answer, and is not kept afterwards.
The service holds short-lived, in-memory request counts tied to your Google account ID purely to enforce usage limits. They contain no message content and are lost whenever the service restarts.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the service — including attempting to disrupt it, probing or overloading it, using it to misrepresent AI-generated output as official FIE guidance, or reselling access to it.
7. Intellectual property
The FIE Technical Rules are the property of the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime. FencingRef quotes and cites them solely for reference and educational purposes; no ownership of the rules text is claimed. The FencingRef name, interface, and code are © 2026 FencingRef; the quoted rules text remains the property of the FIE.
8. Changes to the service or these terms
The service and these terms may change at any time — for example, when the FIE publishes a new edition of the rules. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
